The Mid-Year Global Threat Landscape
What our experts will be discussing at the second annual Whitefish Security Summit (Feb 24-26, 2027)
Part of the planning process for the second annual Whitefish Security Summit is creating an agenda that will reflect and add dimension to our understanding of conflict zones and future risk assessments related to those zones - both domestic and foreign.
To that end, I’ve pulled 2025 end-of-year assessments from the most authoritiative sources that I could find, and asked Anthropic’s Claude to create a graphical representation as well as a scoring mechanism - posted above.
The leading conflict theater among all sources is related to the 2026 midterm elections. CFR's Preventive Priorities Survey lists "growing political violence and popular unrest in the United States" as a Tier I contingency — both high likelihood and high impact for 2026. Specifically called out is heightened political antagonism and domestic security deployments; i.e. federal police and national guard units deployed in U.S. cities.
