Most founders are OK with risk. They understand that the odds are against them, but they’re compelled to try. It’s not because they want to become wealthy. It’s because they have an idea that they think could solve a major problem and help change the world for the better. In the process of doing that, they must navigate shark-filled waters, or even worse, a swamp.
In my case, I thought I could mitigate the risks by only dealing with people whom I’ve known for many years and consider friends.
Nope.
Instead, I met the Creatures from the Black Lagoon.
I knew that what happened to me also happened to others because I had heard the stories before at past Suits and Spooks events, or read about them in the news.
No one talks about them because of shame, or fear of retribution, or an NDA that they were pressured into signing. I now realize that these stories deserve to be told.
If you or someone you know has had a similar experience, please share this post or contact me at founder-horror@proton.me. No actual names of persons or companies will be used.
The best (or worst) one will win a free pass to Suits and Spooks’ Only Founders event next year in Montana.
